Design for the Paper.

Revolutionizing

In the past, for most print projects, paper selection was an afterthought. Design and layout took center stage, and techniques like foil stamp, die cuts, and embossing were the outer limits of what designers could achieve with print.

But it’s time to fundamentally change the way we think about paper and ink. New technologies and substrates are revolutionizing–even redefining–what print can achieve.

These projects are striking examples of the possibilities:

strong

YWCA Dayton, Girls Inc. Promo Mailer

This piece is a prime example of considering new, innovative substrates before design–even concept. The mirrored finish of this paper is used to optimum effect, enabling girls to see their own reflection on the cover–driving home the message that they are “Strong, Smart & Bold.” Simply holding the piece suddenly becomes an interactive experience, creating an instant connection. This one is as personalized as it gets.

black

Make Your Mark on “Black”

This piece was created to highlight how a strategic pairing or paper and ink technique can add new dimension to a flat piece. The layers of white ink on the midnight black substrate makes the CMYK ink pop off the page like never before. In this case, the eyes and the paint seem to glow from within, almost fluorescent.

red

Make Your Mark on “Red”

This piece pairs a rich red card stock with a strategic ink technique, where layers of white ink neutralize the red beneath the colorful imagery. In the past, there was no way to achieve such a rich visual effect without using a coated paper–a process that completely loses tactile impact. In this case, the luxurious, distinct feel of the matte paper is allowed to take center stage.
